Cell Phone Policy

Hello Los Osos Families,

As we look forward to the second semester, we would like to share that Los Osos High
School will be implementing a schoolwide cell phone policy starting Monday, January 5,
2026. This step supports our continued commitment to creating a focused, respectful, and
engaging learning environment for all students, and is in alignment with the California
Phone-Free School Act.

During class time, student phones will be off or on silent and kept out of sight in a
backpack or a teacher-approved storage option unless a teacher provides permission for
instructional use. Students will still be able to use their phones before school, after school,
during lunch, and during passing periods. When students need to leave class for a restroom
or hallway pass, phones will remain in the classroom while they use our digital pass system.

Our approach emphasizes learning and responsibility. Staff will use clear expectations and
a progressive response if a phone is used inappropriately, with the goal of helping students
build positive habits and stay engaged in class. If additional support is needed, an
administrator will step in, and families will be kept informed.

We appreciate your partnership and support as we roll out this policy together. If you have
any questions, please feel free to reach out to your student’s teacher, the Discipline Office,
Counseling, or the Assistant Principal’s office. We look forward to a strong and successful
second semester together.

Claws up, Grizzlies!
